All-Nighters

Urban Dictionary Definition: When you stay up all night for any purpose, to hang out, have sex, study, go online, drive, or any other activity.

I got the habit of pulling all-nighters when I would go to my aunts house when I was younger. My siblings, my cousin and I would see who could stay up the longest and by morning we would all tell each other who stayed up and who fell asleep. I ALWAYS won. As I got older, I would sit up all night on the computer, talking my life away then hitting the sack around 6-8am. After that, it advanced to me sitting up on the computer all night, going through the day without rest, and doing it again all night to crash 3 days later. The longest I've ever stayed up was 9 days, not on purpose, and it was hell. I find myself sleeping more often ever since my boyfriend and I got together (which makes me think I was just thinking too much, was lonely, or stress caused my insomnia). I do however, sleep for 16 - 20 hours when I crash. I also sleep for long periods of time when I'm depressed, and always wake up still tired.

  • Have you had done an all-nighter?
  • How often do you do them?
  • Side-effects?

Howard "Douchebag" Stern?

So in case some of you haven't seen one of my wall post on this, I'm here writing another note haha. So basically, I was browsing Youtube like I do most of the time and come across this video (I'll include the link below), basically BASHING Willow Smith, 9 year old daughter of Willl Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. I thought it was horrible. Well first, I'll post the link, then give you my response. Most likely I WILL be making a response video to this very soon.

Howard Stern Trashes Willow Smith:

Ok! So by now, you're probably feeling some type of way if you like this girl as much as I do ALREADY. I mean she's 9 years old and JUST hit big and we have people trash talking about her already?? So, my response:

Dumbest cast ever. He needs to grow up. It's a LITTLE GIRL you're talking about. She's well educated, it's not like she talks like that in real life and she WANTS the fame she has for herself. I'm pretty sure Will and Jada wouldn't make her do something she doesn't want to, talent just runs in the family. I'm part black, I DON'T speak ebonics and I STILL take some kind of offense to this. It's not funny.

I had noticed someone else had commenting the video, stating that they were black, I guess to kind of justify the rude crap he was saying about this little girl. Here's what this user wrote:

Howard is cool, I'm black I love Howard He wasn't trashing Willow, he's not racist, but besides that everyone is racist everyone usually prefers their own race over others. That's our nature, anyway I listen to Howard everyday and I don't agree with some of the things he says, I don't agree with him saying she trying to sound urban but overall Howard is the best. He can be an idiot sometimes though but hey that's why we love him

So then, you have all these other people commenting on the video with dumb post such as:

i'm black too..and this was not offensive..this was hilarious.....i speak proper english....not ebonics or whatever...."YO WASSUP" lmao.

........dumb right? AGAIN, in my defense:

Everyone is NOT racist, everyone does NOT prefer their own race over others. It's not nature, it's personal choice. I'm 1/8 black and I'll date anyone regardless of race, but I prefer caucasians over all, so you're generalizing. I've never listened to any of his cast before and quite frankly, after this one, I don't want to. He may NOT be racist, but to me, (someone who has never listened to him before) a lot of the things he said were offensive in a way, dumb and based on stereotype.

What are your thoughts on the cast. How did you feel about it? Did it touch you, offend you or affect you at all? Why? Why not?

Prejudice

A friend of mine, Destiny "Moku" Wright, recently brought up something that I thought would be a wonderful, yet touchy, subject to, well, touch. Prejudice! And the people associated with it. Destiny's feelings on this:

"I hate being told I’m “a really pretty black girl” or ” a really smart black girl” or “a well spoken teen” as if I’m some exception to the rule. I’m human…not an oxymoron. It is not a compliment when my race, age or class is used as anything but an adjective. In fact, it’s offensive.Even more offensive is when my people, my generation, and my class act their stereotype. Live beyond expectations."

I completely agreed with her statement and wrote the following:

I find it HIGHLY offensive. Most, have the audacity to tell me to calm down when I comment on things like this because "You're not even black, you're mixed", but I think that entitles me to say something since THEY ARE my people too. I just recently got a comment from some guy on VampireFreaks.com telling me, "To be honest, I say this in the most non racist way xD You have really nice hair for a black girl. I don't mean that offensively though xD Your pretty:] ". Why does color or someones image have to matter so much? Why can't you just be, a pretty girl, instead of "you're very pretty for a black girl", like black girl CAN'T be gorgeous. There are gorgeous people within ALL races, I'm not even speaking for just us black girls here in America, but also our straight race black girls all over the world. Who said white skin, or skin with lack of color was the definition of beauty.

Again, this is only MY opinion, I want to ask you Facebook. Have you ever had to deal with this as well? What are your opinions on the topic? Have you ever found yourself guilty of doing this? If so, why did you feel you had to make a comment such as the one you did? Is there anyone out there that thinks they can justify doing it? Let me know, I really want thoughts and comments on this.

Contact Lenses. Safe?

BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU BUY YOUR HALLOWEEN CONTACT LENSES!

Recently, some internet sites have been discovered selling unknown and non-FDA-approved cosmetic colored contact lenses. Most of these non-approved contact lenses come from Asia (sometimes China) and have not been tested or evaluated by the FDA in terms of sterility and "Good Manufacturing Practices." Some of the colors used to make these lenses are toxic and some could actually be carcinogenic.

To date, the following Web Sites have been identified as selling non regulated /non-FDA-approved cosmetic contact lenses:

   1. YouKnowIt.com   2. BodyJewelleryShop.com   3. Cheapestcolorcontacts.com   4. The DollEye.com   5. ColorContactsGalore.com   6. Contactlens4less.com   7. Contactsbay.com/store/cart.php   8. EyeChange.com   9. Geosupplier.blogspot.com  10. IsakoBoutique.co.cc  11. Online.Fantasyeyes.net  12. PrettyandCute.com/store

NON FDA APPROVEDCONTACT LENS BRANDS BEING SOLD IN THE US:

HOLLYWOOD COLOR CONTACTS      COLORES NOUVEAU      CRAZY EYES      CREATE CONTACT LENSES      COLORFUSION      TOTAL COLOUR      IMAGE CONTACT LENSES      CIB CONTACT LENSES      DISNEY LENSES      DOLL EYES      EYE TONES      ENHANCE COLOURED LENSES      PERFECT BLENDS

The FDA has received reports of corneal ulcers and blindness associated with some decorative contact lenses. If the website does not show a mailing address or does not have a phone number - be wary! Find out where they are located.

  • So I'm asking YOU, how many of you wear color contacts/costume contacts? If yes, why? Do you buy them online or a general store? Do you think the FDA should be spending their time worrying about things like this, instead of more important things like cancer or AIDs? Have you ever had any reported problems with your contact lenses?

Goth Stereotypes: Reply to a MyMag post on MyYearbook.com

So when I go through MyMag posts on MyYearbook, I tend to pick categories I can relate to, something I have in common with, or something that just seems interesting to comment on, share opinions and get to know people's perspectives on life. Tonight, I was browsing the "Goth clique" section and found a post about Gothic stereotypes. This is basically, (copy and paste) what the guy said:

"The stereotypical sayings about Goths are getting old... VERY old! I have multiple Goth friends. They like really bad music that scares young children and dress like freaks because it's an obligatory part of the subculture, but that does not make them freaks. Goths are very pretentious and cold-hearted people, just like other people. Just because you say you're Goth for wearing black clothes and having dark make up does not mean you're a Goth because, once again, that's a stereotype."

So, he was basically stating stereotypes about Goths and being sarcastic about it, then went on commenting persistently: "Goth is ONLY about the music."

He didn't actually say this until another user, Angela, had said, "Goth isn't just about listening to dark music and wearing black or a fad kids go through. It's a state of mind, a culture and a lifestyle. I live by wearing what I like and what makes me comfortable. If someone can't accept me for who I am weather it's for my clothing, music, personal tastes or beliefs, they don't need to be in my life. Life is too short to care about unimportant, insignificant things."

He then went on, and actually said, "you are fucking RETARDED. Goth is ONLY about the music."

Another user, Dead FleshBoi(BecomeUndead), had then commented, "I must agree with Nate, people can choose to make it a lifestyle and in some sense you can try to make it a mindset, but the scene was built upon the music, not certain lifestyles or mindsets. Perhaps that may have drawn the Elders to create the scene, but it had nothing to do with the music."

I, in return, commented: I agree with Angela 90%. 100 if she had said that IT DID derive from music. And true, Dead Flesh, you can choose to make it a lifestyle, but it is inaccurate and ignorant to say that Goth is JUST about the music. Yes, we all know, the Gothic style derived from a Punk genre that was later called Goth Rock, but all that proves is how it was started. It doesn't mean that that's the ONLY thing Goth is about. It's not. The style Goth can be many different things, culture, a mindset, a lifestyle, whatever it may be. just like emo, derived from a music genre and became a style of it's own, Goth did and opened up it's own culture and subcultures, that doesn't mean people forgot how it was started? But that doesn't make it the only thing it's about. Goth is only what it means to that individual, some see it as a lifestyle, some see it as just another thing that thrived off punk, others walking around wearing black, blah blah blah. Goth has been around YEARS before the Punk genre ANYWAY. It is recorded in numerous paintings throughout history, even some of the most famous ones. Shit, it's still used today, as it was a long time ago, in our nuns and priests clothing. I think it's very close minded of an individual to think so little of the subculture. If I was to embrace punk, I'd just be happy to look at Goth's and go, "Do you know your stereotypes culture?"

Am I the only person that still thinks this way? I want your perspective. I know there are others out there that are as open minded as I am and pretty much agree, and of course, disagree with some, or all of what I have said. But it seems to me over the years a lot of people who claim to be Goth haven't really lived up to the name in societies eyes. By society, I mean the mainstream. We have SO many negative stereotypes amongst us through the media, I see it as my duty to defy that, prove them wrong, and make a better name for ourselves. No we are not all "cold hearted" or "mean". No we don't all wear black ALL THE TIME. No it IS NOT bad to actually do that lol. Yes there are Goth's that hang out with "mainstream people". Yes there are Goth's that don't necessarily look like the stereotypical Goth! I believe Goths have some sort of obligation to make negative stereotypes known and put to an end in the public/mainstream eye. I myself, again, don't really claim myself as Goth, but because I'm viewed that way amongst all kinds of people including people that don't know me, I make it my duty to inform them, try to get rid of negative stereotypes and let them ask questions
